foreign welcome to the psychology and spirituality a bridge to a better life series of discussions I'm your host Marcia trajano and with me is my co-host Jose is the Secretary General of the international spiritus Council and former president incurring vice president of the United States spiritus Federation for the past 30 years josara has been volunteering as a Consul in fraternal conversation for several spiritist institutions thank you thank you for joining us and today we're going to talk about Health right we're going to talk a little bit about mental health but I wanted to to bring to you the fact that this episode was brought to us by the international spiritus Council an organization whose mission is to promote the unification of the spiritus movement around the world based on the principles found established by Alan cardek it was founded in 1992 so 30 years right in Madrid Spain if you're interested in learning more about this organization please visit CEI Dash spiritistcouncil.com these program the psychology and spirituality program is also sponsored by Ami Brazil United States spiritus Federation I have to say this thanks Deval de Pereira Franco and the international spiritualist Council make sure you subscribe when you haven't done so and uh if you like to check out our other channels about this topic please check us out at www.spiritus.us hi josada good to have you here yeah actually happy to be here today again and uh to be connected with all of you they are watching us that are participating in this journey of psychology and spirituality we all want a better life and this is the opportunity that we have to be thinking about it to coming from you know different Avenues as well um ordinary things that we do in life that perhaps we should re-evaluate and this is what we are going to be talking about today awesome well we we talk a little bit about balancing right balance for healthy life I think we're specifically going to talk today about oh the power of our words
e are going to be talking about today awesome well we we talk a little bit about balancing right balance for healthy life I think we're specifically going to talk today about oh the power of our words specific specifically we're going to talk a little bit about what we say really matters for our health and if you are interested to know more about this subject oh yes there's plentiful plenty places for you to go but we highly recommend uh several books written by Joanna DeAngelis with a collaboration of divaldo Franco uh they are self-discovery specifically we're um have information from chapter six which is equilibrium in health empty lives love that book um chapter 7 talks about scandals times of health and Consciousness where chapter five it talks about the health and the well-being and Page uh chapter 5 page 111 health and Consciousness and finally life challenges and solutions where in the chapter one we see sickness in health so lots and lots of good information that is going to be our discussion would be based on that but here we are again focusing on mental health and I'm gonna throw a curveball josada I'm not going to talk about any of the books by Jordan I'm gonna go straight to Matthew yes the apost uh Apostle Matthew where he he said something quite interesting so if you go to Matthew 15 verse 11 he he wrote something that says the following it is not what goes into the mouth that defiles a person but what comes out of the mouth yeah yeah oh wow go ahead sorry no I was going to say this is strange right especially if this is the first time someone listens to it and you may have read the Bible or or read about it but when you start to really think about it it is quite strange so I just wanted to know what are your thoughts yeah it's it's uh I I think so interesting Marshall because Marcia because you know um uh we never really I think uh relate uh when we talk about healthy health or uh having a a healthy way of living uh of life and I I I don't think I heard
ng Marshall because Marcia because you know um uh we never really I think uh relate uh when we talk about healthy health or uh having a a healthy way of living uh of life and I I I don't think I heard before I don't know if those that are listening to us have heard that before we come like we are coming here today in this episode talking about you know the Power of Words and um what exactly comes out of our mouth I always like to look at the teachings of Jesus as being really Universal and um you know for all the times and and very powerful to us because um in the context of that time the the way people were mostly worried about external acts versus you know thinking about themselves if it's hard for us now to thousand something years later imagine it at that time and then he comes with this revolutionary phrase you know completely changing the Paradigm listen you are so worried about following your your the customs of eating this or not all of those things but you are not thinking that more damaging and averaging to your health is what comes from you and Paul the Apostle Paul all comes in another um in another quotation in Corinthians 1 15. uh 33 where he says be not deceived bad conversations corrupt good manners there we have another statement calling our attention to pay to calling ourselves to pay attention to uh what comes out of our mouths why especially when we sometimes we think and for ourselves Mercia that we we we we live let's say in a bilingual sometimes trilingual World um it's not the word per se right if I say love in English or in French or more or important Italian amore it's it's it's the energy that comes with the word that we correlate with the word and all this can affect ourselves in terms since we are talking about balancing right balancing our um uh ourselves for a healthy life because the energy that we emanate with actions with words will provoke changes in our cells uh we will induce to imbalance um sometimes even and this is a topic that we are going to be uh
ealthy life because the energy that we emanate with actions with words will provoke changes in our cells uh we will induce to imbalance um sometimes even and this is a topic that we are going to be uh covering more in the different episode when we are going to be talking about anger but but we can feel ourselves when we started becoming altered because of something that happened and um you know we can get into a choleric stage or get too involved in in a discussion how this start affecting ourselves you know pounding in at a gastric um symptoms all of this so I I I think we it is time already for us to to feel all the teachings of Jesus in a different perspective what do you say I I love it I love it it's it's a you said something that uh struck a chord to me which is that revolutionary um aspect of Jesus teaching if we think in terms of the context especially if you think in terms of the historical context of that time uh you know yes I'm worried why am I worried well if I eat the wrong thing I'm gonna get poison I can die but he comes to say oh no no no no no Health can be Define differently and pay attention he didn't say that right but this is my interpretation pay attention pay attention and you so beautifully talked about the the idea of energy what we emanate and how simple words can lead us to imbalance as well as balance I think there's a whole group of individuals me included that uh really make an effort on a daily basis to to think uh from a sense of gratitude right so reveal my day and look what what what has what good have I accomplished what good have I done how could I made this world more positive so there is this sense of creating a a mental state that I am sure leads to some healthy balance but we're here focusing on um in what you said on the imbalance base produced by our words our stimulating those things are not so good right I think I think we we we we talked a little bit about uh uh that earlier in the day right several several weeks ago we're
base produced by our words our stimulating those things are not so good right I think I think we we we we talked a little bit about uh uh that earlier in the day right several several weeks ago we're talking about how how we not only bring that but we we may influence those around us what do you think yes and uh you see in the the book self-discovery that you mentioned by his collaboration with vivaldo Franco there is a phrase that just says hatred mental discharge penetrate the neurotransmission of the nervous system and stimulate the excessive elimination of substances orange juice alterations there are significant in the psychopathological process so here is a Joanna D'Angelo explaining to us how you know the simple fact of communication and how we communicate how we talk to each other and how we verbalize we sent out right this word that sometimes we think that they have no uh intensity or energy how powerful they really are if we start each episode we it's so nice that you know we we greet everyone with a smile and you can I think you can even receive our energy in your home that we are really happy to do what we we are doing and to share all of this with all of you and please make your give your comments to us as well send your comments whether you know you would like even if it's for us to talk about some specific topic that maybe they are in the back of your minds so all of that the way we we communicate the way we we try to reach and and like you said it's very important because here we are not only talking about you know our foul mouth but we are talking about good words as well it's not it's going to compromise our health in a negative sense but what is going to help us the more we surround ourselves we really try to maintain uh good emotions positive thinking good energy Good Vibes around us and yeah and sometimes unfortunately because some of the words became so uh you said on the day-to-day basis that we no longer pay attention to how heavy they can be the discharge of a negative
und us and yeah and sometimes unfortunately because some of the words became so uh you said on the day-to-day basis that we no longer pay attention to how heavy they can be the discharge of a negative energy that they can promote in the whole environment you know the uh the collectivity actually is not just it's not just here yeah yeah I'm trying to to to remember a quote and I uh by good that he he talks about uh um I don't know if you can help me because I I'm not uh I'm just a blocking this from my mind uh but he he talked about the the small uh people mediocre people talk about people and okay talk about facts but the great people talk about ideas have you thought about that have you heard of that quote it's a beautiful quote yes but I don't remember the code no but yes um depending and this comes very much in line with what what Jesus said when you behave as he said no what comes from your mouth what comes from your mouth it's what what we have in our thoughts correct yeah what we are going to tune in and uh of course you know great minds great we are talking here not about intellectual achievements but ethical moral values you know they will be always more focused on thinking about how they can contribute uh for the betterment of humanity for instance right what can I do to make this world better I mean a single idea single action yeah sometimes we think it it doesn't seem too much if we are going to look at the story of the foundation of uh I think the majority of the not-for-profit organizations they all have a story that is very simple for instance I'm engaged in one of this the The Works uh I've been working with on a one organization that is called Dara Institute in Brazil they were founded over 30 30 years ago and with them for 22 years and that she was a uh or she is a medical doctor and that worked in the pediatrician area and she in a public Hospital and you would see that cycle you know that we could not break of children being hospitalized being discharged but
a medical doctor and that worked in the pediatrician area and she in a public Hospital and you would see that cycle you know that we could not break of children being hospitalized being discharged but going to a home to the slums that we have in Rio de Janeiro right and not being capable of you know having a proper meal uh leave it in cardboard houses and um not being able of course to afford medicine so she said I have to do something and she she recently had a return from a trip from here from the U.S but according to her some fancy uh bed sheets and she said you know what I'm going to do a raffle with them and it's not an organization and today years old after this is a huge organization you know our work is in is known and throughout the world here in the US we have many organizations that help this initiative but you see every with the simple action so yeah sometimes we are thinking about our words even when you know uh you you are in your building or if you live in a house and you see a neighbor and you look at them and say good morning who is the really intention of Desiring them a good morning it's going to change their days and it's so so simple but when they are already you know impacting others with uh our mood yeah yeah and and we know right we know from our mental Health that we may be going through perhaps depression we may going through some some areas that you were just uh and I'm generalizing here but very unhappy and that unhappiness that that Melancholy that the temperament leads you to either be very depressed or very angry and I see those are two sides of the same issue here and what comes out and you said beautifully you just said what comes out really reflects what's inside right so so it comes out of uh if if I I am angry violence comes through my words uh etc etc and uh the other side about it is how just like that good morning will impact our energy field and will disseminate that we have to be aware that those words that reflect our oh my goodness that sense of misery
other side about it is how just like that good morning will impact our energy field and will disseminate that we have to be aware that those words that reflect our oh my goodness that sense of misery right the sense of uh of Heart of pain whatever that is also has an impact in those around us and you see when we are talking about words okay or specifically talking about what comes out of our minds first of all we we have to to focus and to to pay attention to what it is in our thoughts yeah so we heard a lot about you know the uh the positive thinking how this can impact our life so the mind the way we engage our minds you know in in positivity or negativity and and how this like you said um uh in term especially in terms of mental health will really cause an impact in our disposition in our belief in the world in ourselves in our community I remember once one of the the the the the the a woman that I was talking to in one of those fraternal conversations she me and told they told me how much she she she she she felt affected when she would be listening to the you know to the news at night before going to and that she would have nightmares and she would be really you know she felt like all those the the negativity that sometimes um because it's it's the reality we are not talking about moving away from the reality I actually choose to talk about the pursue of reality yes not letting that sustain you stay in your mind is your thoughts where you know working in our mental outlooks to see uh if and not to let this um uh impact ourselves in the way of um giving ourselves to all this negativity and then I thought and if it's impacting you so much so negatively um stop you stop it yeah stop yeah right sometimes it's better to be a bit oblivious than see that is something that is causing you harm and you know it's uh not allowing you to live well and to have nightmares and to be so affected by everything that is being said that perhaps it's better if you can those that you want to the news uh just
you know it's uh not allowing you to live well and to have nightmares and to be so affected by everything that is being said that perhaps it's better if you can those that you want to the news uh just you know do that in the morning perhaps instead yeah at the time going too bad right so it's the thought the thoughts that we have to think about and the power of the thoughts right and I wanted to to take a moment here uh Jewel because uh we started with Matthew and we went to Paul let's go back to Matthew because there is a if we zoom in in terms of not just so the power of words but the power of a single word so I was thinking here back to to to Matthew and back to chapter five when he talks verses 21 and 23 and 22 I'm sorry they he Matthew as he talks to us tell us about words from Jesus he notes that there is one one word that is brought to us it's so interesting it's a an Aramaic word right uh raqqa and uh it just just a word without me knowing what it is makes me think of so much different things because we don't use it right we know it's not part of our vocabulary but josada could you talk a little bit about what does that mean and um what are we learning from Jesus teachings through Matthew thank you yes you were saying about this what we learned from the the Jesus teaching about this to the Aramaic world yeah uh raqqa I can only imagine sometimes you really I like to I have this vivid imagination I like to think about you know uh the scene uh when it was happening when Jesus was saying this and again not only what what goes into the mouth but comes from the mouth and uh and what comes from the mouth like this word that it was a the derogatory expression that people use it to offend others even with followed by uh a gesture to make it even more powerful and again it's the same thing calling our attention to say you may think this is the you know the current you know what people do and everyone is doing they is and it's fine because uh you know it's just an expression right
thing calling our attention to say you may think this is the you know the current you know what people do and everyone is doing they is and it's fine because uh you know it's just an expression right no don't worry it's just an expression but uh but yeah he comes in again call our attention to that yes yes don't you think that because everyone is doing and it doesn't and it seems without consequence that it doesn't have a consequence and the thing is we cannot give to others what we don't have so everything every time that I I send a thought or a word of hatred uh the wrong voice expression like in this case it means that I have the roots of those negativities in myself and once we have that it means like we are like a garden that we have wheat that has to be removed yeah yeah that I'm going to look and say oh it's so little it's you know it's not going to affect my garden um right is not going to impact or maybe people are listening to us and they think oh my God I think they are exaggerating this time right since we are talking about them all isn't everything you know it's it's it's it's everything Expressions that everyone use yes it's time for us to become change makers I will keep on saying that it's too much to say you know what I don't feel well doing that I don't have I don't need to use a derogatory expression to to to uh to to put down someone or should you use that yeah in levity comments about other people and I want to remove the you know this negativity from me from my you know from my garden I wanted to be very productive right yeah but but it's very interesting because uh when he discussed that he really meant Jesus Jesus to me Jesus is Love Jesus is Mercy Jesus is welcoming right he he is such a symbol everything but he is telling no no this is a sin right if you do this and and what he's really telling uh I I think it's it's really interesting here is this invitation or maybe Beyond invitation this uh imperative that we have to really monitor how how we are right that that energy
he's really telling uh I I think it's it's really interesting here is this invitation or maybe Beyond invitation this uh imperative that we have to really monitor how how we are right that that energy inside of us but what we say how how we express this energy of who we are in a way that they become um weapons right they become hurtful they can be like daggers that you you're saying things and those things that it's we're uttering is is like somebody's just killing like with a knife with the uh to to really destroy the other person and if you think about uh a little bit here we we can say words can be we mentioned before that sense of gratitude that sets the tone of your own energy right your own field of being being Mindful and being aware of what's going on the words can be charitable uh instruments by as you mentioned just saying good morning just saying hello welcome in the person who may not be so well in in really in need of that but those words can uh belittle somebody else even if it's not a word that is uh uh just to defile the the other with bad words but it can be a word that it is either simply that what we call the dirty truth the ugly truth right but it can be used in in a way to manipulate the thought process and I'm thinking about here as I'm I'm speaking josada so my apologies but uh to manipulate it and that too is a source of hurtful so we have to to Really look at it and as I mentioned before this imperative that Jesus brings to us we must we must tame our tongue right because sometimes you say um and this is how he he calls all our attention says it's it's not because you are not seeing the the result of your attention of your thoughts or words that it's not happening something is not happening and it can be like a crime because yeah uh sends so so much uh bad uh JoJo right yes yes that it can actually actually a person without us realizing and I was remembering a little story about the the life of the uh the famous median and uh that wrote so many uh
h bad uh JoJo right yes yes that it can actually actually a person without us realizing and I was remembering a little story about the the life of the uh the famous median and uh that wrote so many uh books through automatic writing Chico Xavier and Zill and um where he was going to his work in the morning in kind of late uh to catch the bus and the woman from the other side of the street is start screaming his name he could see the bus coming and said oh my God I'm going to be late for for work I cannot stop to you know to greet her to go and and say something and um because one of his uh abilities as a medium was he was a scene age and he could in here almost rarely he could see his spirit guide and his spirit guide Emmanuel stopped him and said where do you think you're going and he said you know what late for work and he said yeah so he said okay let me go there and talk to the woman so he missed the bus went there talked to the woman and uh for a little while and and and then he rush it she'll be able to catch in the next bus and then again um the spirit guide stops him says stop I can't even imagine he's thinking what now right yeah yeah and he said look back and he could see the the the the the the ways of energy like in in form of you know blossoming our light was coming towards him emanating from the woman oh and beautiful of gratitude so we don't see it like I don't see when I put my my my food to you know to hit my foot in the microwaves I don't see the the microwaves but they are not there I know they are after a few minutes of like frozen food it's it's ready right so this is the thing it doesn't mean because we are not seeing it's not there and so uh again the point here is for us to make it a habit to really pay attention in our thoughts in our words because they will affect our health especially our mental health because then to be surrounded by so much negativity that to start affecting like Joanna DeAngelis tells in the book self-discovery our neurotic misters and
fect our health especially our mental health because then to be surrounded by so much negativity that to start affecting like Joanna DeAngelis tells in the book self-discovery our neurotic misters and impact ourselves in a way that will lead us downhill in the how we see ourselves how we see the world and with that we know how hard it is going to be for us to again to pick ourselves up and move forward and we're not going to talk about this here but there is some interesting research right where uh let's say patients from the same terminal disease and where they do diary about their thought processes versus or meditation and how they're healthy state is better than those who who do not so lots of research we are here bringing those books written by Joanna DeAngelis to really make us Ponder on the impact of our words our thoughts to our health state but I wanted to we have a few more minutes as you said I wanted to to to ask you um um regarding the the idea that Jesus brought to us right that we need to monitor or we need to tame our tongue and I wanted to see um we mentioned earlier the book and I happen to have it here let me see I don't know if you can see it empty lives um where it was just published in English uh this year well no last year 2022 right and we we um if we look into the book on chapter 7 specifically which is an entire chapter to discuss scandals right so I wanted to know can you perhaps uh just sort of take a few moments to to talk about what is a scandal what causes a scandal what are the root causes and and what is so important for us to really be mindful of that yeah that's it is candle the way we are talking about here Joanna explains in her book is anything that can go against good morals and that is are going to do this disrespect laws behaviors that go or violate ethical standards so but in our case more in particular how we are going to focus on that in how we sometimes think that think that because we all the truth and we know what it is better and we are going
ical standards so but in our case more in particular how we are going to focus on that in how we sometimes think that think that because we all the truth and we know what it is better and we are going to use um our words used out at certain attitudes to promote Scandal those two uh criticize people um of our point of view they're not necessarily is it the best thing to do and even if we we have reason and again is not that we are saying that we have to be oblivious and indifferent what what is happening in the world and not participate and not voice our opinions we always have to be careful like uh I I I like uh I was thinking about the story of Socrates the three thieves yes when you come with uh I have something to tell you it's useful it's going to benefit me it's it it's it is it um um or can we change something I don't I don't remember quite well but um if it's detrimental to to orders it's not going to make a difference if I don't know if it is true yes there there is a children's book I remember once the reading um uh you know that um there is the the mother is going to teach her her child because she was gossiping about a colleague at school from school and said come to me and they went you to the grab a pillow and then she she told her daughter now you let's open this pillow the feather pillow and shake it and in the window um and then of course all the feathers flew away and now she said now I want you to go there and pick each and every feather and she the daughter shed this is impossible and the mother said you know what this is what happens with our words once we voice them uh they are like those feathers they will go to places that we don't know and what the damage they can cause and we can and we cannot uh picking it in them back anymore so then it's uh when Juana de Angela is talking about the uh scandals in this book among other things is one of the things that she she she lead us to uh to learn uh again how we are going also to use the the words in
hen Juana de Angela is talking about the uh scandals in this book among other things is one of the things that she she she lead us to uh to learn uh again how we are going also to use the the words in in the form of provoking scandals and uh and this doesn't say good things about this right yes yes it's again it's it's a really a a camera if you will to our soul right it just it demonstrate Who We Are by what we say I wanted to to tell everyone who's here that uh if you Google uh Socrates three truths right three thieves he says basically am I sure that what I'm going to say is true is what I'm gonna say a good thing and third do I really need to say that is it is it useful and and I love it because sometimes we're just like oh I heard something let me hurry to tell the world because it's a treasure I have something spicy new interesting and often detrimental right so the first thing is is it even true and how do you know it's true or not right and is it good is it going to cause the pain and I want to pause here uh maybe to to to give a color to something that uh you know it may may happen let's say uh for those of you who are students and the first day that a new student comes into school and you you look at that person what are you saying you're uh about that person to others can cause pain can be detrimental can be untrue and who are you right to do that you are now responsible for the impactful uh words about that person it can be school we can be work it can be a community of friends we are very um eager to to and this is Human Nature by the way but we're eager into that that very fast uh Judgment of who's the new person it's wired in our brains in our uh need to protect ourselves and we we don't live in a society that we need that anymore we have time so before you ever ever think about judging and speaking about somebody else let's let's ask ourselves that is it true is it a good thing and do I really need to say that and if so is it will it be useful love it thank you for for bringing that
and speaking about somebody else let's let's ask ourselves that is it true is it a good thing and do I really need to say that and if so is it will it be useful love it thank you for for bringing that we are almost a time but I just wanted to maybe perhaps just sort of conclude here that we should never ever ever ever be careless about what we say and or even our commitment our goals right do we do we think we have time perhaps to talk about isop and his favorite let's do it let's do it so um I don't know if you know about ESOP you out there so ESOP is um well known um writer right he he wrote many many fables to the point that he's always he became legendary right so we you use the the word ESOP in Fable comes up in in Vice verses so he he wrote many many stories that uh Through Time became part of our um our idea ideology about what's right and what's not right and uh I wanted to see if uh jusada real quickly no man no uh to take too much song but if you talk about what did Aesop say about his fable about the tongue yeah and uh it's also important to mention that there are many people that even contest that whether you know question whether or not but in any case the collection of fables they uh it's it's so extraordinary even inspired lafontein later on to to write also Facebook goals and uh they have a very important um teaching Concept in a very easy way for people to absorb and so it said that he was uh working for for this um you know this prominent person in Greece uh his name was Santos and Santos and he asked him to he was going to receive some guests and asked Azo to to go to the market and provide them you know the best fist that he could the best meal that he could find and meet whatever and so go to the market and and and comes back and you know help there in the cooking and then and when he comes to present the best food uh they had they they they served talk and so you know according to their idea this was not absolutely the best to meet or the best uh thing or you know
then and when he comes to present the best food uh they had they they they served talk and so you know according to their idea this was not absolutely the best to meet or the best uh thing or you know a banquet and so he said this is the best that you could find how how what happened right and tells the talk it is the great channel of learning and philosophy and by this Noble organ we can uh um make a dresses eulogies Commerce contracts marriages nothing is as good as the talk so they were very intrigued and then uh the following week equals to to qa's up and presented challenges said you know what the other day you brought I asked you for the best meal that could be there there is there that could happen they could have in market so now I want you to bring the worst and so again there they serve Again songs and then that how come the other day you said this is the best meal and now you say that it's the worst meal and he says what can be worse than the thong yeah weakness is there under the sun that is in that that it has not a part in it treason's violence Injustice fraud and growing up in pyres and cities and even friendship so I I think it's very good for us to meditate about that and and the connection that we again want to emphasize we want to make here is how we own uh what happens to ourselves and uh and the condition of our physical and mental health by the simple fact of mastering our thoughts yes and being more careful with our words and we will see the difference yes thank you thank you with that I would say we're going to close our conversation today about mental health and the Power of Words the power of your tongue the power of your commitment to be truthful be good and uh and to be helpful to others so with that I'll see you next time when we'll continue a little bit further this topic in different aspects thank you so much josara thank you who joined us we see you again bye thank you
